What is the Argentine Good Design Seal?

It is the official distinction granted by the Secretariat of Industry, Commerce and Small and Medium Enterprise of the Argentine Ministry of Economy, through the National Design Plan, to products of Argentine companies that stand out for their design quality. PLIEGO received it in the 14th edition, in the clothing, footwear and accessories category.

Which pieces make up the line?

Seven: the Radial Shirt, four Molina Jackets in wool cloth, raw denim, water repellent recycled PET fabric and bouclé, the Ritual Trousers and the Ritual Shorts.

What materials is it made of?

Six: cotton poplin, wool and polyester cloth, seven ounce raw cotton denim, water repellent fabric made from post consumer recycled PET, wool and viscose bouclé, and eucalyptus fibre Tencel.

How is each piece made?

The pattern is first studied in CLO3D, including a tension map, and validated with a toile on the stand. Only then does it go into production: industrial machine construction with pleats formed by hand, one piece at a time, in the house atelier.

Where is PLIEGO designed and made?

In the Atelier Molina workshop in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The house belongs to Carlos II Molina S.A.S. and works in author design with artisanal construction.

The pliego

From the Latin plicāre, to fold.

A pliego is a flat sheet that generates form when it is folded. Every book format was born from a single folded sheet, and Latin American popular publishing was born from cordel broadsheets.

This line works on the same principle: a flat textile surface that becomes a garment when it is folded at precise points. If the joining vertices are respected, the pleat works in any cloth, from rigid denim to light poplin, from wool to recycled fabric.

Design hypothesis

If the joining points of the pleat are respected, the principle works whatever the cloth. The hypothesis was studied in CLO3D, validated with a toile on the stand and taken into artisanal production in six different materials.

Camisa Radial

Cotton poplin, white

The piece is built by pleating the cloth radially from the collar downward, following the shape of the body. The resulting pleat is cut open so the seam stays visible.

Water repellent recycled PET fabric with cotton and polyester, olive green

Two front pleats set at 45 degrees create volume and depth. The fabric is made from post consumer plastic bottles and carries a water repellent finish, so the pleat principle also holds in a technical material.
